8.4.4 Curriculumn

With the progressive roll out of the CBC to grade 3, learners continue with class 4 to form 4 under the 8.4.4 curriculum. The learners sit for a national exam at the end of primary school- in class 8, and therefore join high school where they sit for another national exam after four years of study.

At Joylanders, we complement the content rich 8.4.4 curriculum with our child centered approach; this means the learners stay in charge of their educational journeys and outcomes are activity/project based. Our diverse co-curricular offering ensures that the whole child is educated – they are engaged in competitive sports, chess, drama & music to name a few. Visit our FACEBOOK PAGE to read the diverse stories of some of the learners who went through the 8.4.4 system at Makini.

Educational Visits

We value educational visits and experiential learning and therefore we organise a wide range of learning opportunities outside of the classroom. These include subject specific day trips, local and regional visits to museums and galleries and concerts, as well as overnight regional and international educational visits.

These are designed to support academic learning and to expose students to other cultures and destinations and to develop a global perspective.

We have introduced a series of outdoor educational visits which are age specific and designed to encourage independence, confidence and a wider understanding of local and regional issues such as conservation, environment and enterprise.

Through this programme we expect that students will develop an awareness for the issues facing our country. These opportunities develop the skills required to be successful participants in the President’s Award which is only available to high school students.
